I've tried to look at those brochures, and they are a real pain in the butt to find things and look across the long list of things they have.
Better to have it right there on the menu. In fact, they could put things up there according to the calorie count, with the highest on the top left and going down to the lowest. That way it would be easy to pick something that worked with your diet if you are on one.

Great news! California just passed into law SB 1420 which mandates menu labeling. Forget the crazy, complicated and obtuse brochures, in California we'll now be able to simply look up at the menu board. That's where the information belongs. Bravo!

The brochures may be fine, but they are not being read. The people who don't care probably do care on some level but are in purposeful denial. If faced with the information many people will make an alternate, informed decision. If you are in favor of people being informed, why are you opposed to making it easier to be informed? It's not insulting. It's realistic and practical. Our health care system is collapsing under the weight of obesity and people are suffering needlessly.

It's nearly impossible to find a brochure at a fast food restaurant much less read it quickly.

Right on! I tried this once and spent 10 minutes waiting for the staff to even find a brochure. For heaven's sake, just post it right up there on the menu board! Good work!

I prefer to look up the nutrition information on a restaurant's website, but I've used those brochures. They're not that hard to figure out. Keep your glasses handy people!

sir or madame, trust me, i'm getting the point. moreover, i am informed. i just think that the CCPHA has put a spin on something to promote their agenda. Where are the people that thought the brochures were just fine? Oh wait, they're not on the video are they? How about the people who said, "I don't CARE what the nutrional value of the food is." Oh wait....they are not on the video either.
No sundance, I get the point....do you get mine?
sundance79a (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I think you are missing the point. By not making it easy for people to see or find the calorie counts on what they are buying, they can not make an informed decision. The fast food giants say - "Oh-just look at our brochures for the info." This video shows just how hard that is to do.
basehead3000 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
This is the most insulting thing I have ever seen. Anything can be taken out of context, and that is exactly what the people who made this video want you to think! MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS AND BE INFORMED, NOT A SHEEP....Baaaa!

I fed my kid fast food while he was growing up because he liked it, it was convenient, cheap and came with toys. I didn't realize all those calories were leading up to his obesity and pre-diabetes. Seeing it up front would have influenced our choices - now it's rarely a fast food restaurant, if ever! |
