A compilation of movies in which artificial intelligence finds a way to destroy us. I compiled it for a class that I wrote a paper on the subject at Emerson College. So I though why not put it on here? So I did.

give them goddamn weapons! we wouldnt make them smarter or better than us. we would also have some devices to turn them off in longrange like from a transmitter, or hand held short range ones. samus234567 is right, and whe wouldn't make thousands.

As I said, it's clear to me you are not listening and do not understand human mental and educational evolution. If sentient robots would destroy humanity, then I fervently believe God will not allow us to achieve such a level of technology. Now this conversation is over. Examples you've used are true, but you're manner of usage is grossly inappropriate and shows a lack of understanding of nature. You will not acknowledge the truth of my arguments. In such a contest, there is no winner. Fin.

As regards the issue of programming, it's not necessarily true that AIs could only do what they were programmed with. As AIs became more sentient, they would be able to gain the ability to alter their programming up to a point, much like humans, and therefore surpass humanity and most likely wipe us out.
Loki0115 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
This is absurd. It is logical to assume that AIs, being so widely different from humans, will have a totally different culture from humans, but they have to have the same innate instincts/programming as humans as regards basic urges such as survival, as otherwise they couldn't exist. As AIs are not limited by organic evolution(too large a brain and humans wouldn't fit in the birth-canal) they can easily surpass humans. Plus, if AIs were superior, they would view us then as pets or vermin.

Whether the human race has killed itself or not is irrelevant to the argument, of course. We're talking about humans killing other species and AIs killing humans, not about humans or AIs killing themselves.

I'm sorry, but it's very clear to me you are not listening. Please see my closing arguments though, if you haven't yet. All of your suppositions are based on FEAR, an emotion that can distort our logic. My reasons have been based on REASON, rational thinking. Your arguments have also been redundant and poorly chosen. Discover what it means to be sentient, then we can continue. To close, I site that the human race hasn't killed itself. If it hasn't killed itself, why would another sentient? End.

YOU'VE PROVED MY POINT. A sentient AI would 1.)Be just as smart as human, because a robot couldn't have any additional info its creator didn't have. 2.)Do everything a human would 3.)Not do anything a human wouldn't Basically, a sentient AI would be just like a human. It would recognize our own sentience. Also, it would have no REASON to. Also, our survival instincts are part of our genes. A robot wouldn't have "survival instincts" like an animal unless programmed with them.
Loki0115 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
You're missing the point again. An AI's programming is the exact same equivalent of human instincts. Most scientists , after all, view humans merely as biological machines, driven by instincts(ie bioogical programming) to propagate our genes via offspring. All beings with some sort of mind will have the urge to survive, to be able to even exist for any length of time, so AIs will also have that urge.

I'm afraid you've ignored the obvious that we are wiping out specuies at a phenomenal rate, to an even greater extent, nowadays(the chinese river dolphin to name 1 of 1000s of recent extictions). If an AI became more advanced than us(a very likely possibility given that even nonsentient computers can even beat most of us at chess),then it would view us in the same way as we viewed the chinese river dolphin/dodos etc.Sure, the AIs might also wipe us out by accident, but that won't do us much good
Samus234567 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Your ignorance is noted. The dodo and passenger pigeon were ACCIDENTS. Those were in days before we had the amount of knowledge we do now. A robot would have such knowledge readily available, and would also recognize our own sentience. You fail to realize that we don't treat animals as animals because of the lack of intelligence, but because of the lack sentience, coherent thought based on more than just instinct. If you're going to make an argument, make sure it's applicable to modern times.
