I did this same drive, but the other way (NYC to LA) and I noticed you cut out alot of parts and took some very weird routes to get there. Firstly, why go through Vegas? I-40 would have been alot faster to get to New Mexico. And driving on the Strip doesn't save much time...
Also, I don't notice you ever stopping for gas. Any why does going from LA to New MExico take about the same amount of time as New Mexico to NYC?

There's a sign in Ocean City, Maryland that says the distance to Sacramento, California. The distance posted is 3073 miles or 4946 kilometers.
